Crystal and John are a couple of friends of mine who got engaged last year, and married earlier this year (you can see their wedding photos later on the blog!). When they asked me to photograph their wedding for them I was both excited and terrified, so offered to do an engagement shoot with them too. This was in no small part so that we could check out the spot where they wanted their wedding photos!
As it turned out (rather obviously, really) the engagement shoot told me very little about what the wedding would be like. The differences in the number of people involved, the time-pressure, the time of day, the time of year, the clothes they were wearing, and about a million other little details, meant that the shoots were almost completely different experiences. However, it was still a great walk and shoot, and it enabled me to get a feel for the sorts of shots that each of them was going to want for the actual day. Happily for me, Crystal is a very 'arty photograph' kind of person, while John really likes the more traditional kind of shot - everyone in focus, no funny business! Since I was after the chance to do as many different things as possible, the combination suited me fine!
