Earlier this year, I was contacted by the Bible Society of South Australia with a request for photography that I would not have predicted. The organisation was holding a fund-raising concert in North Adelaide for the creation of their new CD, 'Our Favourite Hymns'. Not having photographed a concert or a CD inlay slip before, I thought this an exciting opportunity.
The day featured two singing groups, the Metropolitan Male Choir of South Australia, and the Shalom Singers, as well as Bible Society CEO Gillean Smiley giving the key-note address, and former South Australian Deputy Premier Don Hopgood as host and MC. At first I thought that I was in luck: no darkened stadium and flashing strobes to contend with, as in so many concerts. However, I soon found that taking natural photographs in a high-ceilinged, only moderately-lit church was perhaps equally difficult, if in a different way.
All that only meant, however, that my satisfaction was all the greater when I got my shots home and found some real winners, my excitement all the more palpable when, opening my letterbox a few months later, I found a complimentary copy of the CD, with Out of the Studio photographs adorning the inlay slip!
